Emrick Announces Grant for Easton Area School District

MT. BETHEL – State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton) is pleased to announce the awarding of a more than $529,000 Keystones to Opportunity Grant to the Easton Area School District by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

“I applaud the Easton Area School District for this grant, which they applied for and have earned,” Emrick said. “Literacy is one of the basic building blocks for a quality education, and this grant will allow the district to augment the great work they are already doing in their reading programs.”

PDE has been awarded $38 million through the United States Department of Education’s Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program. The Keystones to Opportunity (Striving Readers) Grant was awarded to support Pennsylvania’s comprehensive approach to improving literacy outcomes for all children, including disadvantaged students, limited English proficient students and students with disabilities.

“Pennsylvania is one of six states, out of the 35 states that applied, to be awarded these discretionary dollars,” added Emrick. “The money is to be used to enhance student literacy outcomes, birth through grade 12, in addition to improving classroom environments and developing a local literacy plan.”

For more information on this or any other legislative issue, please contact Emrick through his Mt. Bethel district office at (570) 897-0401, or his Nazareth office at (610) 746-5090.
