Emrick Applauds Grant for Pius X High School

MT BETHEL - Pius X High School in Bangor is one of 34 Pennsylvania schools being awarded a federal grant to accelerate the implementation of its hybrid learning program, according to state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton). The $17,500 grant was announced Tuesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

“As a former school teacher, I am always interested in innovative methods of learning that hold the possibility of improving our education system,” Emrick said. “I support the hybrid learning program and am happy to see Pius X being recognized.”

Hybrid learning focuses on individual instruction and offers parents and students expanded curriculum choices. It employs small groups and regularly rotates students among different stations, including direct instruction with a teacher, independent learning on a computer and group collaboration with peers.

“Hybrid learning uses new technology in offering a solution to the different speeds and manners in which students comprehend,” added Emrick. “Pius X should be applauded for thinking outside the box in looking for ways to offer the best education possible.”

Questions about this or any other legislative issue should be directed to Emrick’s Mt. Bethel office at (570) 897-0401 or his Nazareth office at (610) 746-5090.
