Emrick Secures $500,000 Grant for Route 191-Friedenstahl Avenue Traffic Light
NAZARETH – State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton) is pleased to announce that funding has been secured for the installation of a traffic light at the Route 191-Friedenstahl Avenue intersection in Upper Nazareth Township.

“Today we have taken a huge step forward in addressing a safety issue that has been allowed to linger for far too long.” Emrick stated. “This is a great day for the safety and well-being of the Nazareth community and especially the students of the Nazareth Area School District.

“Today’s announcement is also the culmination of the hard work of former Upper Nazareth Township Supervisor Jim Augustine. Grant writing is not easy and requires a considerable amount of time and effort, which Jim selflessly provided,” said Emrick.

The $500,000 grant was secured through the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act’s Local Share Account. The revenue is generated solely by the Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono, and may be distributed among the five counties adjacent to Monroe County.

On Friday, March 21, Emrick will meet with representatives from the Nazareth Area School District, PennDOT and Upper Nazareth Township to discuss the next step in the project.

In addition, Tatamy Borough has also been awarded $38,000 in funding that will go toward a new police vehicle and a piece of equipment used in sealing local roads.
