Emrick Reacts to Wolf Budget Proposal
3/3/2015
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth) today issued the following statement in reaction to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal, which calls for $33.8 billion in total spending, representing an unprecedented tax increase and a 16 percent or $4.6 billion overall spending increase over the current fiscal year:

“Governor Wolf has laid out an ambitious wish list of spending and tax increases. There are some things he has proposed that we should discuss, such as his approach to property tax reform, which is a crucial issue to the people I represent in the 137th Legislative District.

“Unfortunately, the governor did not address spending controls or cost-cutting measures in any way. There are also contradictions between his agenda and the mechanisms he wants to use to achieve it. For instance, raising the minimum wage and increasing Personal Income and sales taxes does not benefit the middle class and the small businesses that are our largest job creators.

“Since taking office, I have always operated under the belief that government should live within its means, just as private households and the private sector do. I will be guided by that belief as we continue the process of crafting a spending plan for the coming fiscal year.”

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Emrick’s Mt. Bethel office at (570) 897-0401 or his Nazareth office at (610) 746-5090.
