Emrick Updates Route 191 Traffic Light Project
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth) issued the following statement regarding the project to install a traffic light at the Route 191-Friedenstahl Avenue intersection in Upper Nazareth Township.

“On Friday, May 22, I issued a press release concerning the traffic light project and asked both Keystone Engineering and Newton Engineering why they have yet to make significant progress on the project, or even submit the necessary plans to PennDOT.

“Funding for this project was secured last fall. The original goal was to break ground Wednesday, June 10 - the day after the 2014-15 school year ends in the Nazareth district. No plans have been submitted to PennDOT by either group as of today (Tuesday, June 2), even though Keystone Engineering has billed the district for $316,866.45 in services. As a result, no identifiable timetable for breaking ground on this project can be established.

“Representatives of Keystone Engineering regularly attend meetings of the Upper Nazareth Township Board of Supervisors. I invite you to attend the Wednesday, June 3, supervisors meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., in the township building, 100 Newport Ave., Nazareth. It will be your opportunity to ask the engineers yourself why they have not submitted plans to PennDOT for review and final approval.

“You may also wish to attend the Monday, June 15, meeting of the Nazareth Area School District’s school board. That meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter L. Peters Board Room of Nazareth Area High School. Representatives of Newton Engineering regularly attend these school board meetings.

“You have a right to demand answers as to why no significant progress has been made on installing a traffic signal at this dangerous intersection.”

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Emrick’s district office at (570) 897-0401 or (610) 746-5090.
