Emrick Announces Major Step Forward in Route 191-Friedenstahl Avenue Traffic Light Project
NAZARETH – Installation of a traffic light at the Route 191-Friedenstahl Avenue intersection in Upper Nazareth Township is a step closer to being accomplished, according to state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth).

“I am pleased to announce PennDOT this morning issued the long-awaited Highway Occupancy Permit for the project, which is essentially the green light for which the engineers have been waiting,” Emrick said.

Schlouch Incorporated will now receive a full Notice to Proceed with site preparation. Township engineers are working to move utility polls adjacent to the work site and have scheduled a pre-construction meeting for the project.

Emrick is glad to see the project reach this point, considering where things stood a year ago.

“In May of last year, this project seemed to be spinning its wheels, even though the final bit of funding had been secured seven months before that,” added Emrick. “There now appears to be a traffic ‘light at the end of the tunnel,’ and one of the area’s most dangerous intersections will soon be a lot safer for the Nazareth community and students of the Nazareth Area School District.

“Barring unforeseen circumstances, we’re hoping to have the traffic light up and working late this summer.”

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Emrick’s district office at (570) 897-0401 or (610) 746-5090.
