HARRISBURG
– Gov. Tom Wolf today issued his budget address for the 2017-18 fiscal year to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. The governor’s proposed $32.34 billion spending plan includes no broad-based tax hikes increases and sends more money to our public schools for basic education funding, PreK Counts, special education and Head Start Assistance.

State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth) issued the following statement in reaction to the governor’s proposal:

“I welcome the change of tone by Gov. Wolf in offering his budget proposal. He has come to the realization that fiscal responsibility is the course Pennsylvania must take in order to turn around our economy and set us on a path to prosperity.

“The address was rather brief and offered relatively few specific details, but his change of mindset compared to the past two years is obvious. I applaud his intent to get our fiscal ‘house’ in order, and look forward to the upcoming House Appropriations Committee hearings that will unveil more details on his plan.

“Today’s address is a good start, and I’m anxious to work with my colleagues to pass a fiscally responsible budget that protects the hard-working taxpayers of Pennsylvania.”

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Emrick’s Nazareth district office at (610) 746-5090 or his Mt. Bethel office at (570) 897-0401.
