HARRISBURG – Motivated by the light cast upon the Commonwealth’s current, failing budget system and policies over the past five months, an ad-hoc budget group of 18 rank-and-file House Republican members refused to stop with the submission of a no-tax-or-borrow budget revenue proposal. The group, which proposed using tax dollars stowed away in reserve accounts instead of increasing taxes, has continued to meet weekly since the submission of the proposal, and has formally organized as the Common Sense Caucus (CSC).

MOUNT BETHEL - Three municipalities in the 137th Legislative District are recipients of Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants, according to state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth). Funded with federal and state money, these grants are administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

MT. BETHEL – State Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth) and his staff will ring in 2018 by opening a new Slate Belt district office at 447 Blue Valley Drive, Bangor, next to the Capitol Plaza. The first day of business in the new location will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, starting at 9 a.m.

NAZARETH – The Borough of Bangor is the recipient of a nearly $2 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) grant to address flooding on Messinger Street, according to state Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Nazareth). The money will be used to replace the existing slate box culvert with a storm sewer.

HARRISBURG – After seven weeks of diligent work to find an alternative to the Senate’s plan to raise taxes on every Pennsylvanian, a group of House Republicans released today the Taxpayers’ Budget to fund the 2017-18 budget without the need to borrow money or increase taxes.

HARRISBURG – House Bill 218, the general appropriations piece of the state budget process, is headed to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk following a 173-27 vote in the House today. The bill calls for a minimal increase in spending and a substantial hike in funding for Pennsylvania’s public schools.

HARRISBURG – VF Corp., owner of Majestic Athletic, today released details of the sale of its Licensed Sports Group, including Majestic, to Fanatics Inc. State Rep. The governor’s proposed $32.34 billion spending plan includes no broad-based tax hikes increases and sends more money to our public schools for basic education funding, PreK Counts, special education and Head Start Assistance.

The holidays tend to be a time when we see the people we know more often. Where our older family members and friends are concerned, this time of year is a perfect time to remind them the deadline to apply for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is rapidly approaching. Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, Dec. 31, in order to qualify for a rebate for the 2015 tax year.
