HARRISBURG – Seven fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 137th District were awarded grant funding through the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton) announced today.

“I’m grateful to announce the approval of these grants for our local fire and EMS companies,” said Emrick. “In time of need, these companies are right there to support and protect, so this state funding will contribute to their life-saving operations.”

The following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:

• Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Company (Fire) - $16,173.90.
• Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Company (EMS) - $15,000.
• Hecktown Volunteer Fire Company #No. 1 - $15,000.
• Palmer Municipal Fire Department - $16,951.99.
• Suburban EMS Inc. - $14,725.
• Tatamy Fire Company - $13,061.55.
• Upper Nazareth Fire Department - $15,000.

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
